10 Things You Didnt Know about Italia Ricci

Italia Ricci

Most recognize Italia Ricci as the actress who played April Carver on the ABC Family show Chasing Life. However, well before landing that gig Ricci honed her acting chops and worked her way to where she is now. The Ontario native had her first big break in Hollywood in one of the sequels to American Pie, Beta House, and then had other roles on TV shows and in music videos.

These days she can be seen on the televised political drama Designated Survivor playing the role of Emily Rhodes, and Italia is also working on upcoming movie projects. As her star status has steadily risen, so has the public’s interest in her personal life. After recently marrying her longtime boyfriend, Robbie Amell, many are wanting to find out more about the actress. Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about Italia Ricci.

1. Italia is actually her middle name. She was born in Ontario, Canada on October 29, 1986 as Stephanie Italia Ricci. Her family is of Italian descent, which explains where her middle name comes from — the word “Italia” literally means Italy in Italian. Now that she’s gotten married, she’s personally and professionally adopted her husband’s last name, Amell.

2. She’s appeared in a number of roles on Disney and Nickelodeon. The first was on Disney XD’s Aarron Stone, where Italia had a five show stint in the recurring role of Chase Ravenwood. On Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP Italia had a cameo in the episode “Pajama Party” as herself. These two particular appearances on the kids’ networks happened one year apart, in 2009 and 2010.

3. Italia had small roles on two popular televisions shows, House and How I Met Your Mother. On the latter she simply played a nameless attractive woman on the episode “The Front Porch”. When she appeared on House Italia also had a nameless role, but in that instance she played Immigration Officer #2 on the episode “House Divided”. Those who are fans of CSI may remember seeing the actress playing another law enforcement officer, the character Vanessa Drake.

4. Her husband is also from Ontario, Canada. Italia started dating Robbie Amell in the summer of 2008, and they became engaged on August 19, 2014. Their wedding ceremony took place on October 15, 2016 in downtown Los Angeles.

5. Her net worth is $5 million, and her yearly salary from acting is about $588,235. Now that she’s gotten married, that figure could change depending upon if the couple signed prenups and what the terms of the agreements are. Her husband, Robbie Amell, has a net worth of $2 million that he also obtained from acting.

6. The couple’s wedding attire was custom designed, which isn’t such a surprise considering they’re both celebrities. Robbie wore a tux that was fitted just for him and made by Samuelsohn, along with Tod’s shoes. Italia, on the other hand, wore an elaborate strapless gown with hand applied embellishments that was made by James Clifford.

The style of the gown was very formal, elaborate, and perfectly complemented the actress’s figure. To go with her gorgeous dress, Italia paired it with sophisticated Neil Lane jewelry and chic shoes by Betsy Johnson. The couple looked amazing together, as usual, but the inspiration behind Italia’s wedding day look came from one of the roles she played.

7. The inspiration for her wedding day makeup was the same makeup the character April Carver wore on Chasing Life when she got married. Because the details of her dress were so elaborate, Italia figured that a glowing but subdued makeup look and hairstyle would best complement it. To ensure her makeup was just right, Italia got the same makeup team that created the look for April Carver on the show to be her makeup artists on her real life wedding day.

8. Though her wedding took place in Los Angeles, California, Italia and her friends took to Canada to have her bachelorette party. While the party didn’t take place at night like the usual bachelorette soiree, there were plenty of traditional accessories and decor including girly feather boas, themed cups, and a fun fake tiara for the bride to be.

During the party the ladies were attended to by a butler, sans his pans and donning only a simple apron. Attendees at the part included Leanne Aguilera, who is a host on TV show Entertainment Tonight, and Carina Adly MacKenzie, writer for The Originals.

9. When Italia Ricci took on the role of April Carver on Chasing Life, which is based on a Mexican telenovela called Terminales, she didn’t know anything about what it was like to live with cancer. To give her role more authenticity she talked to Robbie Amell’s aunt. The mother of Robbie’s cousin, fellow actor Stephen Amell, is a breast cancer survivor and she let Italia know what it physically felt like to live with cancer and go through chemo.

Although it was a very emotional conversation, Italia was definitely better prepared to play her character. On the show, April is a woman in her mid 20s who wants to become a well-known journalist. When she finds out that she’s been stricken with cancer, she decides not to let it stop her from living life to the fullest.

10. Italia has a lot of really weird nicknames. Some people have a pet name or two that their partner loving gives them, but the name that Robbie Amell has been calling Italia for years would definitely be considered offensive by some. Her husband Robbie has called her “Fatty” since they started dating — there’s definitely an inside joke attached to that nickname that the masses aren’t privy to.

Italia doesn’t mind the moniker and thinks it’s funny, and she also has no problems with any of the other nicknames the people in her life have given her. Along with Fatty, Italia Ricci is sometimes referred to as “Mom” by one of her friends. Back in high school the actress was called Tals and Reech by her classmates.
